STATISTICS

Today, nearly 70% of high school graduates enroll in a 2-year or 4-year college or university immediately following graduation. These enrollment numbers include 67% of Hispanic students in 2017 and 58% of black students in 2017 as compared to 69% of White students and 87% of Asian students. Reference.

 

Due to these statistics, Girls Prep, Inc. actively recruits Black and LatinX young women to participate in our programs.

 

A recent Pew Research Center study found that Americans with some form of higher education believed that their own college experience was very useful for “helping them grow personally and intellectually (62%), opening up job opportunities (53%) and providing them with useful job-related skills and knowledge (49%).” Reference

 

A college degree has a significant impact on a person’s lifelong earnings potential. In 2018, the median earnings for young adults with Bachelor’s degree were $54,700. Median earnings for those with an Associate’s degree were $40,000. Those with only a high school diploma had median earnings of $34,900, which dropped to $27,900 for those who didn’t graduate from high school. The median earnings for those with Master’s degrees or higher was $65,000.  Reference

 

Through our innovative mentoring program, Girls Prep, Inc. fosters leadership development and educational excellence for all of our participants.  Girls Prep has tested and demonstrated the importance of mentorship in supporting educational outcomes, life-skills, providing opportunities for exposure and advancement into college. Our programmatic survey was administered in Fall 2020 and the survey results can be found below.

Since being founded in 2009, Girls Prep has served over 25 proteges through our (educational programming and one-on-one mentorship). We continue to be regarded as one of the leading innovative and collaborative mentoring organizations in the Washington DC Metropolitan area.
